Google has addressed an issue that was causing some Pixel phone users to experience crashes when trying to watch a specific YouTube clip featuring an alien. The company said the issue was caused by a bug in Android’s video codec, which has now been fixed. In a statement to 9to5Google, a Google spokesperson said, “We were aware of the issue and have since fixed it. This was related to a video codec problem in Android that caused the crash.” The issue appears to have affected only a small number of users, but it gained widespread attention after a Reddit post about it went viral. The post included a link to the YouTube clip, which was titled “This video is cursed… don’t watch it…” and featured an alien-like creature. Users who watched the clip on their Pixel phones reported that their devices would freeze or reboot.
